Luka Doncic MVP Talk Sparks Mavericks’ Statement

On Wednesday night, the Dallas Mavericks sent a clear message with their attire: “Pravi MVP,” meaning Real MVP. It wasn’t hard to decipher what the message on the T-shirts worn by players, coaches, and staff before their game against the Miami Heat meant.

Expressing a bold bias, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd asserted that Luka Doncic should be this season’s NBA MVP. He bluntly addressed why the 25-year-old Slovenian star isn’t seen as the frontrunner for the award: “Game’s too simple, too easy,” said Kidd, who himself was a close second in the 2001-02 MVP voting to Tim Duncan. “He makes it look too easy. Unfortunately, that’s what happens with some of the greats … we take for granted their talent.”

Doncic is poised to be one of the MVP selections on many, if not all, of the 100 award ballots cast next week by reporters and broadcasters covering the league. While Denver’s Nikola Jokic is expected to win the award for the third time in the last four years, Doncic’s exceptional season is undeniable.

Doncic is on track to secure his first scoring title as the regular season comes to a close. Entering Wednesday’s game in Miami, he was averaging 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 9.8 assists. No player in NBA history has ever finished a season with such averages across all three categories.

Furthermore, Doncic is a shoo-in for first-team All-NBA honors for the fifth time in his six Dallas seasons. Additionally, his 280 3-pointers, entering Wednesday’s game, ranked second in the league behind Golden State’s Stephen Curry.

Despite being only 25 years old, Doncic’s approach to the game sets him apart, as Kidd observed: “He’s only 25, but he’s playing the game like no one else.”
